I watched the electric candle awaken in growing flickers. Dim orange to yellow-white, blooming. Sensing the lowering of daylight with an eye, electric. Kate, singing from the machine. Tesoro mio, bella. An array of evening birds, outside my window. Heart-rate slowing from my walk. Two miles in a ring again, on the first of this new month. The light seems more enduring, now. The sky was wide and pretty. Me? I’m a bit sweaty.
