The Perfectly Remembered Moment
Thursday, February 26th, 2009It is after work, and I am unfolding slow. Just watched a fascinating presentation by Rick Prelinger and the Long Now Foundation called “Lost Landscapes of San Francisco“. It ponders the idea of creating a four dimensional model of the world, from archival footage; home movies, educational films, out-takes and other imagery that, geo-tagged and linked with meta data, could show us our would changing over time. And more. With services like Google Earth and Street View and geo tagged photos and videos on sites like Flickr, it truly does make you wonder what can be done with our recorded history. It also begs the question as to what will become of this hyper-recorded now — and how seeing the world like this will change us.
