A Last Dream Before Waking

In my last dream before waking, I dreamt that I was depressed — which is sort of like dreaming you are at work: it defeats the point of dreaming in the first place.

I slept late and had multiple dreams.  Lost love, tattoos, paths into the woods…traffic.  I awoke with the depression dream hovering above my thoughts like mist rising from the surface of a lake.  My body feels light, drained, a bit sore.  My eyes are bleary.

The late morning looks pale and composed out there.  The occasional confetti of falling leaves adding random color and motion.  Then back to stillness.  The parkway is dreaming traffic.

It’s the depression thing for me.  All of the other dreams I had last night are blurring together, like today’s blank white sky.  The last dream, though…

The last dream lingers.
