Veil

| | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0)

Thirsty, listening to Kate Bush. Breathing. Feeling strange for hours now. Wishing for a blood red glass of port. Wishing to be tighter. Brighter.

Times like these I feel close to a veil; like I'm pushing up against something that has been passed by, forgotten. Something deep and dusted in years. A dreaming thing.

Pressed now to that, like a face against lace.

An art vibe hummed around me earlier. I layered and altered photos. Got some pretty stuff clicked and selected into being. Put one on my desktop. Lots of reds. The film grain filter was the finishing touch -- it gave things a smokey touchable texture. Made it more real. Funny, how obscuring can improve. Mystery and poetry in the unseen. A strange power in that...

Now I am tired (an ever eventual occurrence) and Kate's art is taking me through vivid, dreaming places.

I am wearing uncustomary jewlery, eyeing a glass sipped nearly dry of water, and wondering at the clock. Sleep is a veil, too.

Flickr-ing

I have been playing around on Flickr, uploading photos and such. It's a pretty cool site with lots of nifty features.

My photos, the few that are there at the moment, are here. (If ya wanna check 'em out.)

Other than that, I've updated my Bookmarks page with a lot more stuff. I'm in a webby kinda mood today, I guess.

Other than that, things are quiet.

And cool.

Dim & Dreary

It's dim and dreary today. The sky is the color of watered-down milk. The air feels cool and damp. I've had a half a pot of coffee today and I still feel sleepy, now -- at very nearly six.

And it is all quiet. And vaguely drizzly.

If you were looking through a window, lightly filmed in rain, and idly dreaming of an especially wan Tuesday, this would be it.

More or less.

Goodbye, girl.

Autumnal

I'm feeling it...

The light here has been shifting toward Fall vividness for some time now. The air is cooler. Leaves are giving up their green and falling in shades of yellow -- with golds and reds to follow.

The first day of Autumn, and I'm washing seasonal clothes. Putting some of the Summer away. The Allurium also has its Autumn colors up. I hope you like them.

Well, it's back to laundry for me. (And at some point here I need to grab a haircut and a shave.)

Hello Autumn...

Seasonal Recall

Today looks like it has been carved out of delicate but vivid crystal. It is perfect and clear. Blue skies above; shine and green below.

The last day of Summer.

I feel almost giddy at the sadness of the season's passing.

Some things:
Me, on the Appalachian Trail - May 29, 2004
I went there and back again and wore a hat. Along the way, I lost my Internet connection...then found it again.

I saw fireworks and Socko on the Fourth of July. Resolved to spend more time in the outside air. (And kept to that, pretty much.) I had a very cool night in Pittsburgh with Kelli (and Guster, Ben and Rufus). Then grooved on some High Speed Chocolate.

John, Kelli and Alex at Hershey Park, PA - July 17, 2004

I took more than Four Pictures of Clouds (and tried to see a meteor shower, to no avail). Later, I cobbled together the fifth version of The Allurium -- just for the heck of it. Then I slowly dried-out, after the waters rose.

And now...now it is almost Autumn. Summer is down to hours.

But she was sweet, sad, memorable and fun.

Here's to her return.

And to Autumn's gold.

Drying Slow

Outside the air is cool, the sky deep. Last night, Kelli and I drove through the city and saw the rivers grown fat and wide, erasing low-lying streets. The fountain at the Point was a black mirror. Streetlights still glowed above the submerged road we saw. I wonder if fish were passing along, beneath the surface, schooling past traffic signs and pot holes? Fairly surreal...

Things now, however, are rain-free and bright. Cool skies and quiet hours. Sunday, and my hair is drying slow.

Deepening

The puddles outside have gone from thin silvery mirrors to lush splattering pools of chocolate. The horizon is near and vertical gray...everything else is watercolored in moist shades of green and brown.

'Rain Angel' -- September 17, 2004
Looking down from a window as the ground goes soft and blurred. Surf-like whispers heard vaguely through the roof. And the water is cooling the air, deepening the day.

I'm grazing at the keyboard, from time-to-time. Pattering at the re-design. The new look is trickling further into the site, now. Though things aren't finished yet...

With the daylight hours washing down to evening, I find myself watching the rain. During the in-between moments.

And thinking of the beach.

The Allurium 5.0 (almost)

Ahem, you may have noticed a fair amount of digital dust and debris scattered around here at the moment -- sorry about that. I've recently upgraded the program that runs this site and am in the middle of a fairly large re-design.

Things will probably be a bit wonky for the next week or so -- but nifty new stuff is coming! I promise!

Hope you like the new look (the various sub pages are still unstyled at the moment, so they'll look pretty...um, not pretty for a few more days...)

:-)

The quality of the light around here is different, now.

On this cool Friday the air seems more clear, the sunlight a bit further slanted -- but illuminating things more vividly. Flowers still bloom, however. And green remains, everywhere.

Autumn is close, though. Pressing her hand against the screen of Summer; cool breezes and gilded leaves in her hair...

Right now: I can hear the fountain in the pond, someone running a lawnmower, distantly, and the whispering of the highway...always that.

I'm tired.

Ah, after a bit of upgrading angst (and an extended holiday weekend) I do believe that The Allurium is fully functional again. Hopefully.

Things here should also be running on the most recent version of MovableType, now. (If I've done things correctly -- as always, time will tell.)

Aside from that, things here are muggy, wet, and rolling quickly toward the end of Summer. A fact that still amazes me.

Where does the time go?
