Happy Birthday, Bill - April 27, 2006

Happy Birthday, Bill!

I hope you have a great day -- and an even better year ahead!

Net Neutrality

| | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0)

A group of the largest telephone and cable companies in the U.S. are trying to become "Internet gatekeepers", taxing content providers to guarantee speedy delivery of their data and such. Of course, the potential for censorship, blocking data or services, slowing the delivery of "rival" information, and other bits of nastiness is ripe. Ensuring that strong support for "network neutrality" remains in place is a goal that will keep the U.S. portion of the Internet viable. So, if you are in the U.S. and want to help, check out:

Blossom Shower

The tree in the back yard is like a stationary cloud of perfumed snow. When the breeze sifts through it, tiny droplets of pink and white flutter down to carpet the ground. Other colors are scattered through the landscape: bright yellows, blues, lush reds. A multitude of greens, emerging everywhere.

Nocturn

We tire of the city
We tire of it all
We long for just that something more...

- Kate Bush, "Nocturn" (from Aerial)

But the sunlight was golden on my face, and pale pink petals fluttered through the air. Birds...and the sounds of water. And the evening stretching long, like a cat after a warm nap.

Such a pretty Saturday.

Cheers.

Whispered

Still feeling a bit reflective I sat on the red bench, outside, after cleaning the carpets. The day was tall and bright, full of caressing breezes and bird-song. New blooms. I sipped some cold water and took off my glasses, closed my eyes and tipped my head back. The sun was warm and golden on my face. The sound of the fountain, behind me. The scent of hyacinths...everywhere.

I just sat there and breathed for a while. Then, out of the clear blue sky, a scattering of raindrops whispered over me.

They felt like kisses.

Being Here

| | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0)

I'm having a Killian's while watching a candle spill blue as it burns down. It is raining outside. Whispery sounds through the window are mixing with the vague scent of Hyacinths...

The holiday weekend seems closer than it actually is...though it really isn't that far. I sort of feel like I've skipped ahead a bit and I'm there already. I can't help but compare this Easter weekend to the way I was feeling at this point last year. I guess I've learned things (not all of them happy things -- but learned none-the-less). It still feels sad to me -- but more hopeful than last year. I'm grateful for that.

And still happy to be here.

It is a bright, sunshine-yellow day. The blooming forsythia look like hyper-vivid special effects and morning light is drawing glowing lines on my floor...

I finally got a chance to see The Chronicles of Narnia - The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (Special Two-Disc Collector's Edition) the other night and really enjoyed it. I remember reading the series many times when I was younger and still have my original paperbacks on one of my bookcases. I looked through my copy of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (carefully, the binding and pages are yellow now, and somewhat brittle) and saw that my grandmother had given me the book on Halloween -- in 1974. I was ten then. It still amazes me that I first read the novel 32 years ago. Heck, it amazes me that I can say I did anything 32 years ago.

Looking back through time is a lot like stepping through an enchanted wardrobe. Such a great shift...with such magical swiftness.

These moments have wings.

Freshening

Friday, and I have some late afternoon candles lit. Freshening things up around here. The windows are open; sweet (sometimes powerful) air sweeping through. It's Chik Patties and cheese for me, tonight.

Then I'm going to scrub myself up and head on out.

I'm thinking that a glass or two of wine would feel pretty good. Yes, indeed.

Here's to a freshening weekend...

Rain Wet Yellow

It has been going from dim-to-bright, with lines of wet gray, in-between. A rainy Monday, made more vivid by splashes of blooming (or near blooming) flowers.

I'm sipping strong coffee, turing on lights, and thinking Spring. Time has shifted an hour ahead and I really should shave...and freshen things up around here for the new season. Gotta get on that.

And a bunch of other things.

Hello April!

Happy Birthday: Greg
