May 2006 Archives
The primary feel is dense air and sweat. It is bright and breary out there -- and warm enough to slog through in here. The end of May, and the film has skipped a sequence of frames and jump-cut to the dog days of August.
Not that I'm complaining or anything. :-)
But, still. It's like, hot, man...
...Of the Memorial Day weekend, and the air has a thick, misty texture. All the new greenery is sheened with moisture. The earth is soft. A cool breeze cuts through the mugginess -- but only briefly. Like a wink.
I got a fair amount of stuff done today and I'm looking forward to the holiday. I think it's time to uncurl and get out in the air and landscape. Maybe have a book and a beer...and enjoy some (hopefully) sunny hours.
Here's to a great weekend!
Thursday has been dialing the shine up and down from moment-to-moment. Right now, it is milky-pale out there...
I've been a busy bee this week: taking care of kitties, helping out on doctor's visits and squeaking in multiple loads of laundry. I've also taken some time to tinker with The Allurium a bit. You may have noticed that things are somewhat bigger on the site now, for instance. I'm also flirting with Google AdSense on some of the internal pages. We'll have to see how that works out. (And feel free to click away, if you see an ad that interests you! lol)
Other than that, I find myself waiting to stretch into the Memorial Day weekend. I hope the weather stays on the bright side of things. I'd like to grab a book and relax, outside. Maybe with a tasty beverage or two. :-) For the evenings, I'm thinking of a couple of new movies or something. I'm looking forward to grabbing Night Watch when it comes out on dvd. I've heard good things about that one (and I hope they still have the nifty "context-sensitive" subtitles on the dvd). Unfortunately, that won't be released here until June 20th, so I'll have to find something else for this weekend...
And I really should get a haircut, too. I'm starting to look positively shaggy.
Maybe tomorrow...
Sunday afternoon and I missed the tiki party but am starting to feel better...
It's bright out there, now: blue-skied. Still kinda chilly though. This morning was all wet green and cold drizzle. My cold is almost gone but I'm not up to full speed just yet. It has been a "drifty" kind of weekend. I'm sorry I missed Joel and Ellen's party on Saturday -- I was looking forward to that. Next year I'm there!
Think I'll stir-fry some tofu and veggies tonight, and watch Aeon Flux (Widescreen Special Collector's Edition).
Yeap, I'm a regular dynamo!
Have a safe, fun and very relaxing trip to the beach, Amy. I hope you have a great vacation!

The light is dimming down out there, washed from the sky by steady lines of gray. A preponderance of green saves the scene from being too dreary. All that new growth is soothing (even if it is quite wet). Me? I'm slow and sneezy, drifting into the evening with a glass of chocolate milk and a well-used box of kleenex. Seems I snagged a cold over the weekend.
Ah well...
I voted, earlier. My first time on the new computerized touch screen machines. It was pretty straight-forward -- though I do sort of miss the old mechanical lever voting machines with their automatic curtains and clicks and clacks. That felt a bit like doing some factory work. This was much more ephemeral. Like going to an ATM machine.
Progress...
I think I'll watch a movie or something. And sniffle for a while.
The sound of water from the fountain creates a soft accompaniment to the afternoon. It mingles with a silky cool breeze and the invigorating buzz of this coffee.
I've been dreaming of people from my past. Odd situations. The feeling I have is that I am missing, by the flutter of a butterfly's wing, some interesting insight...
Earlier, I was reading this article about a group of engineers trying to create a robot with a sense of presence. (ZDNet has more on "BabyBot" here.) When you talk of presence, you delve into self-awareness and at least the foundations of a mind. The fact that the engineers are creating their robot based on studies of how babies perceive and learn to understand the world makes the project even more intriguing.
I wonder at a machine that has a sense of presence. And I also wonder: at what point does imitating a thing create the thing you are imitating?
Right now, the pond is spreading ripples -- and the sky is deepening toward a rain shower. The air has stilled.
Things are...expectant.
Ah, the first of May and the fountain is trickling, birds are tweeting and the breeze (if not warm) is at least Springtime cool and fragrant. I'm heading toward some coffee and a bite to eat -- and hopefully a bit of walking, later today. Gotta try and get rid of those last five pounds.
I hope the sun is shining on you.
And, Hello May!
