Bon Voyage!

Have a safe, smooth and very happy trip to "that toddlin' town", Amy. The kitties and I will keep it real here in the 'burgh -- and will look forward to your return!

Summer's Last

In the pale afternoon, a bright black and orange Monarch butterfly fluttered by my window. Confetti from a passing parade -- or from one that had already passed. It is dark and cool now. The last evening of this Summer. I'm typing this from Amy's place, with her ever-tuxedoed kitties, Yoda and Jedi, in attendance. They kind of make this season-ending a semi-formal occasion. We are going to mull apple cider and toast the Summer...and the entrance of Autumn. All this time and all of these moments. How fast and memorable.

Here's to many more.

This Passing Season

Earlier today I was sitting on the deck. I put the chair back and reclined, looking up at the soft blue sky. I watched the sun's slanting rays pick out gold in the tops of the trees...then lower, deeper. The air was perfect on my skin. The day: quiet.

Now it's night. The cicadas are chirping in waves; the highway a murmur in the background. A tall glass of water...and more quiet. It is kind of melancholy, knowing that this is the start of the last week of Summer. I love Autumn, but...

It all goes by so fast.

Still. There were many sweet points in this passing season. And I will look forward with hope to more, in the days to come.

(Along with a preponderance of pumpkins.)

Gloss

Moisture, suspended in the air like a curtain. A wet sheen over everything. Slippery green in the daylight, obsidian gloss at night. All around (and through the hours) the sounds of water.

Even now...

Some of the trees are already shifting towards Autumn: green giving way. The breezes caress with a lighter touch; goosebumps and shivers are no longer rumors. And all that water, dripping and drizzling from the sky, cooling things further...

I wore a light jacket tonight, soft and gray. Carried a bright red umbrella. Now though? Just typing...and yawning. Wondering how we got so far into September already.

With days and nights this glossy, perhaps we slid.

September Hello

Though the day is filled with a sort of pale dimness, I'm still intent on squeezing out some more Summer, here. The season has fast-forwarded to this point, rendering the last couple of months into a tiki-tinged blur. A coolness is in the air, now. The light began its change a few weeks ago.

But, still...

I'm holding to the green season, and drifting into the holiday weekend with Summer on my mind.

Hello September.
