This Passing Season

Earlier today I was sitting on the deck. I put the chair back and reclined, looking up at the soft blue sky. I watched the sun's slanting rays pick out gold in the tops of the trees...then lower, deeper. The air was perfect on my skin. The day: quiet.

Now it's night. The cicadas are chirping in waves; the highway a murmur in the background. A tall glass of water...and more quiet. It is kind of melancholy, knowing that this is the start of the last week of Summer. I love Autumn, but...

It all goes by so fast.

Still. There were many sweet points in this passing season. And I will look forward with hope to more, in the days to come.

(Along with a preponderance of pumpkins.)
