The stream was flat and glimmery, framed by tall inward curving banks of trees. I sat on the small bridge, in traffic, on the way home from work. As I looked out my window the sunlight grew brighter, pouring through the leaves and casting them golden (though most were still green).
On Mars, the Phoenix lander can "see" snow falling a couple of kilometers above it. Flakes evaporating before they hit the ground.
Right now, here, it is ink-black beyond my window. Just the sounds of the highway and cicadas out there. In here it is the tap-tapping of the keyboard and distant tv. The sky seems so high above me.

Summer poured by (and seems to have been gone for ages already). It certainly felt like an equinox, today -- and is black out there now. I was off and drifted like a ghost through the hours. At dusk, I took some photos. They look best in black and white.

Well, the laundry is done. As is my web-fiddling for the night. The holiday went by too swiftly (the Summer has been doing that as well). Tonight, as I drove home from Amy's, I followed pools of white cast by the streetlights, passed through the distinctive scents of unseen barbecues and then, at the top of the hill, paused before the perfect peach sunset.
