Had a weird night, full of vivid dreams. I flicked through at least a half dozen surreal adventures that also featured me being aware that I was dreaming, while I was dreaming. I'd watch myself dream, feel like an hour or so had passed, check my watch and see that it had been about ten minutes -- then do it all over again. All night long. Now I'm awake, drinking coffee and listening to the wind howl, outside. Getting ready for work. For me, the last day of 2008 is starting...strangely.

A Catholic nun taught me to paint. Acrylics, oils, pastels. Watercolors. Once, she took us on a field trip to a beautiful place. For inspiration. We sketched there. She took pictures. From one of those photos she created a painting. It shows me, from behind. On a path that curves up and to the left -- yet I am facing away from that path, about to step off into the woods.
I did, then. Sometimes I think I still am.
The wind is heaving...rushing to the ground and up again. Pouring through bare branches and ice-sheened evergreens. Too cold even for snow, at the moment.
I spent the day wrapping presents and, while I should be heading to bed now, might watch a movie instead. Prince Caspian, I think -- Narnia has always held a Christmas-y vibe for me...

In the dark it is soft, white and quiet. Big snowflakes falling steadily down. It is feathery and wet out there -- and I'm 45 years old, in here.
Time floats, flutters...and flies.
