February 2009 Archives
It is after work, and I am unfolding slow. Just watched a fascinating presentation by Rick Prelinger and the Long Now Foundation called "Lost Landscapes of San Francisco". It ponders the idea of creating a four dimensional model of the world, from archival footage; home movies, educational films, out-takes and other imagery that, geo-tagged and linked with meta data, could show us our would changing over time. And more. With services like Google Earth and Street View and geo tagged photos and videos on sites like Flickr, it truly does make you wonder what can be done with our recorded history. It also begs the question as to what will become of this hyper-recorded now -- and how seeing the world like this will change us.
Interesting things to ponder, while I do a slo-mo tumble toward my futon.
Drifting, at the end of the day. Sunlight poured down till dark. An open Wednesday: almost gone. Tomorrow it will be early time, and physical. Right now, I am just drifting toward sleep. Unwinding. It felt like Spring, today. What I feel like now, is a dream.
Happy Birthday, Dad -- I hope you have a wonderful day, and many healthy and happy years ahead!
Love,
John
And Happy Valentine's Day Everyone!

Doing laundry, on a dim and misty day off from work. Sipping ice-cold water, in-between. During the second load, something blew a fuse. Grumbling to myself, I searched around for a flashlight, so that I could find the right switch to flip. I found a light ok -- but the battery was dead. Pondering soggy laundry I wondered if my iPhone would cast enough of a glow. Then I figured, why not try the app store?

Sure enough, there were several "flashlight" apps for the iPhone. I tapped a few times, downloaded one into my phone and flicked it on: let there be light. It worked like a charm (and my socks and boxers and now nice and dry, thank you).
The world gets more virtual all the time...
