The light has changed. Today, the sky is a deep and perfect blue, the sunlight: crystal-clear. There is a smooth and gentle coolness to the air and the sounds of birds and cicadas speak of the end of a season. Still, Summer holds on (and I to it).

So nice to be off on a Saturday, to stretch-out into sunny hours. I'm sipping green tea and getting ready for a little picnic. I hope your weekend is bright and pretty, too.

Buttercup Day

I saw a buttercup-colored butterfly tumble by. The heat is around me like an embrace. Hazed blue: the sky above me. I'm typing this on my phone, thumbs twiddling, feet bare on the grass. It is my day off and I am loving the open sky moments. :-)

Wow, it's been a while.

This month has blurred by. I haven't had as much time as I would have liked to update The Allurium -- but figured I'd steal a bit of time this morning while I catch up on my email...

It is bright and bird-twittery at the moment. A Summery shine washed over everything. I'm thinking of coffee -- and sneezing. I'm also seriously considering buying an Apple laptop. And a car.

I should probably get my laundry done first, though. ;-)

Blue Sky Groove

Zipping through my day-off -- but having the time at is nice. The holidays blurred by faster than ever. Now it is a new year, in the middle of a shy winter, and I am using the day for small things and pleasantries. Good coffee and grocery lists, laundry, and sitting at my desk cleaning my glasses. Taking down some Christmas decorations, outside and within. I kind of feel like I am catching up, just a bit...

My Christmas gift "from me, to me" this year was a sushi kit that I snagged in the grocery store. Here are some shots of my first two attempts at making my own vegetarian sushi:

Veggie sushi, take one...

(Avocado and carrots, with the extra rice rolled into balls and sprinkled with sesame seeds.)

(Just avocado in these; it was all I had left. But I rolled 'em two different ways this time. And topped the extra rice balls with avocado slices, too...)

They actually tasted pretty good, but I definitely need more practice making a nice even roll...

It is like Spring out there, today. The air is expansive and fresh.

I'm still doing the small things, here.

But it feels good.
